This #FranchiseFeatureFriday, we’re bringing the foxiest franchise in town to your screen! Simon Kanoon is the owner and founder of Little-L Chicken Burgers, in Sydney’s Bondi Beach. This foxy franchise opened its doors in 2008, and quickly became a favourite on the Sydney food scene. Little-L Chicken Burgers is now looking to franchise in New South Wales and beyond. Simon shares his insights on the business today and the future.
When did you start the franchise?
I started in November 2008 as Olies, and in November 2015 we rebranded to Little-L Chicken Burgers.
What are the top 3 milestones you’ve encountered with Little-L?
In September 2016, we secured a national television broadcast, on the Today show (Channel 9). We consistently exceed our sales budgets Little-L Chicken Burgers has the best chicken burgers in Australia. This is something we have worked very hard to achieve.
What attracted you to the opportunity, and in turn, why should others?
I was able to develop the Little-L concept through an opportunity with another brand. I liked their food so much that I decided to invest in the business and establish a location myself. In hindsight, I was naive in my approach. Their food was good, but the business model, company branding and concept, were not. I was able to learn from my mistakes and move on. Through that experience, I now understand the value of professional franchise advice. Investing with Little-L comes with the peace of mind that I have made the hard mistakes so franchisees won’t have to.
What made you decide to start a business?
I knew I could create a clean and modern concept that would involve a quality and honest brand. I saw that the dynamics in the market were changing. And there was an opportunity to fill a niche that was being underserved. I have experience as both a franchisee and and now a franchisor. As I have been on both sides of the table, I am able to offer a well-rounded franchisee journey.
How do you spend your free time?
I spend most of the my free time at home with my wife and 3 beautiful children. When I have a bit of extra time I like to play tennis or catch a movie, but only if it’s noteworthy!
Why are you passionate about growing the Little L franchise?
My life is to serve others and honour what is good, and that’s what I’ve been doing for the past 15 years. I am passionate about growing the Little L franchise. I want to share this amazing and unique concept with other communities, in Sydney and beyond! As the years have passed, I have become more focused and passionate about growing the Little L brand!
How many years of business experience do you have?
I have 15 years of business experience. About 10 years ago I bought into a franchise chain where I learned end to end about the food trade. I took that experience and as a business owner, I was able to make improvements for my own ventures.
Founded in 2008 as Olies, Simon refreshed and relaunched the brand as Little-L in late 2015. With the flagship in Bondi Beach, Little-L plans to open at least two other locations in 2017-18. While the business is growing, its core mission remains the same.
